I am fascinated in finding different ways of developing the links in the chain between the artist/maker and the wider audience in ways which are interesting and valuable to all. IC:Innovative Craft exists to stimulate creative ambition, ensure that objects of international quality are presented and interpreted imaginatively and to develop the understanding and appreciation of work in all its rich and varied forms. It is important within the field that critical debate is stimulated and maintained and that the quality of that debate reaches out to a wide audience. There are many outstanding makers working in the UK and internationally today producing work that is extraordinary, thought-provoking and ambitious. IC aims to work closely with others to give this work and the debates it provokes maximum visibility.
Amanda joined The Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh in 1986, to establish a regular programme of contemporary craft exhibitions, with a particular focus on jewellery, metalwork, ceramics and glass. Under her guidance, The Scottish Gallery became a leading venue for modern craft in the UK, with an international programme of more than 200 exhibitions from 1986-2007. In 2008 she left The Scottish Gallery to pursue a freelance career in the field as a curator and writer. In 2008 she is acting as Lead Director for IC:Innovative Craft, with a particular focus on the important and developing relationship with the Dovecot Studios and their new Infirmary Street building.
