IC:Innovative Craft - Team

Director: Roanne Dods

Roanne Dods

The first Jerwood event I ever went to was the private view for the Jerwood Applied Art Prize for glass. I was mesmerised by the quality and beauty of the making, by the integrity towards medium and ideas and the interplay of craft and art. I have since developed a deep fascination with makers and their making and how to bring more people to appreciate and understand their work in new and special contexts. This is what IC is about for me.

A trained lawyer, Roanne left the legal profession to undertake an MA in Dance Studies at the Laban Centre, London before becoming Artistic Director of a contemporary dance company suddenlylastsummer.

She was Director of the Jerwood Charitable Foundation between 1998 and 2009, during which time it became one of the most high profile foundations concentrating on the arts in the UK. In 2004 Jerwood Charitable Foundation was presented with an Angel Award by the International Society for the Performing Arts for ‘innovative and spectacular work across the artistic spectrum in recent years’ by Sir John Tusa. She currently is working on a research project with Mission Models Money looking at 21st Century competencies in the arts and cultural sector; is working with Cove Park, Argyll and setting up her own enterprise, Rose Orange.

The Innovative Craft team is thrilled that in 2010 Roanne was honoured by the Cultural Leadership Foundation for all her exceptional work within cultural organisations in the UK - for more information click here
