Part of the modular reading room by Edinburgh sculptor Scott Laverie
IC:Innovative Craft has commissioned Edinburgh sculptor, Scott Laverie, to design and make a portable, modular Reading Room, which will be on show from 5 August to 26 September in the Reception Area at Dovecot.
The Reading Room is designed to house a generous gift of catalogues and books from The Scottish Gallery on contemporary craft and design. It provides a freely accessible place to read, rest and reflect on some of the exhibitions on view and the wider field of contemporary making.
Scott Laverie has used limed birch ply to create an elegant, flexible system for this new library. Laverie, who is based at the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshops had previously designed the set build for Innovative Craft’s Raising the Bar exhibition in 2008 which toured throughout the UK.
Many thanks to Scott for his participation in this commission and many thanks to the National Lottery whose funds helped to support the commission.
During August there will be a Slow Food coffee facility available in the Reading Room.
